Human rights based approaches to food poverty
Twenty-six people have signed up to be involved in this group which is meeting to develop and understanding of human rights approaches to food poverty and what they might mean for community based practice.
The first introductory meeting was held in June when members shared what was on their agenda and what they hope to get form the group. At the second meeting in August, the group Duncan Wilson form the Scottish Human Rights Commission provided an introduction to different human rights law and treaties and the ‘right to food’.
In October the group will have two sessions- one with Graham Riches from the University of British Columbia who will talk with them about his experience of community initiatives working from a ‘right to food’ approach, and a second as part of our annual networking conference with Liz Dowler from Warwick University, who will be speaking on how we can develop a more food just society.
