Healthy eating for adults with learning disabilities pilot report and DVD
This Scottish Government funded Healthy Eating, Healthy Living Project developed a multi-media educational pack consisting of 26 sessions on healthy eating for adults with learning disabilities. This included five practical cookery sessions. A small team supported six pilot sites in Greater Glasgow and Tayside to deliver the pack and this report, which is available to download from our Publications Library, describes how the programme was delivered; what impact it made and recommendations for this work in the future.
The Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability has a DVD available about healthy eating called ‘Food for Thought’. People with learning disabilities and family carers talk about their experiences of healthy eating. The messages in the DVD are not all about 5-a-day or giving up treats. They show people enjoying healthy eating, cooking and spending time with family and friends. They also show how eating a healthier diet could improve quality of life.
